2.Objective of the Practice
Poornima University, Jaipur rigorously follows an all-inclusive approach towards innovative teaching learning methodology and aggressive industry connect thus inculcating various attributes like precarious thinking, analytical, logical and problem-solving abilities amongst students. The ultimate objective is to develop its students to be a lifelong learner having adequate skills and creativity so as to meet industry requirement in the ever changing land scape and contribute in the growth of self, society and the nation
3.The Context
Poornima University is well aware about fast changing requirements of the industry at current times. Due to a lot of disruption and transformation which is happening in every part of real life & industry, particularly technological, social and commercial has created an acute need of strong Industry Academic Relationship. Therefore, a lot of efforts are made to build strong relationship with industries and industry bodies so that the students should attain local/national/global proficiencies and advanced innovative skills along with best academic results.
4.The Context
Industry and industry related all the aspects are at the core of all academic and research activities of Poornima University. From syllabus designing to organising various technical/non-technical events like conferences, seminars, competitions, visits/tours/internship etc., industry is always involved directly or indirectly. Inviting industry experts for teaching, taking special and motivational sessions are part of day to day life at Poornima University. Poornima University has very strong relationship with leading industry bodies like ISTE, ISHRAE, ASHRAE, ISLE, IEEEE, CII, YII, EAR, IGBC, IIIID, IIA etc. PU either has student chapters of these industry bodies or it used to actively participate in their activities like exhibitions, technical sessions, seminars and other events by sending faculty and students to participate.
In order to keep pace with the rapid changes in the industry and to prepare the students industry ready, a Corporate Advisory Board (CAB) has been set up who can guide, help and support the university from time to time. The Corporate Advisory Board comprises of senior leaders across the industries who will provide non-binding strategic advice to the management of Poornima University. In this connection, a lot of efforts are made to bring the leaders of corporate to become part of Corporate Advisory Board which has resulted in a good size board having 120 members at present. Few of the targeted functions of CAB are given below:-
  • Organisation of Joint Conferences and Seminars.
  • Practical Training to the students of Poornima University.
  • Joint Guidance to the students in their projects / thesis.
  • Industry may depute its personnel as visiting faculty to each any of the regular course or specialised topic wherever possible.
  • Corporate Advisory Board may be requested to design the industry relevant course or upgrade the course to be more industry relevant.
  • Corporate Advisory Board may be requested to provide the opportunity to students to visit their premises and understand the functioning of the industry.
  • Provides professional expertise to support university curriculum with periodic reviews and updates.
  • Provides access to professional development and technical assistance for teachers.
  • Other areas as deemed necessary by having mutual understanding.
 
Apart from above, the research activities across the University are abridged through state-of-the-art innovation centres and inter-disciplinary labs with focus on latest industry trends and industry involvement. Students of all the programs are involved in path breaking pioneering projects for social and individual benefits which impact the life of the society.
A few of the concrete steps taken by the University for inclusive and holistic growth of students and faculties are enumerated below:
  • Establishment of Centres of Excellence.
  • Establishment of labs in association with industry.
  • Regular updating the Scheme and Syllabus on the basis of Industry feedback.
  • Providing state of the art laboratories with modern equipment.
  • Fully equipped digital library, adequately stocked with requisite number of reference and text books, national and international journals, eBooks and e-Journals, along with the online access to various eBooks/Courses from various learning platforms.
  • Recognition and appreciation for participation in industry related activities/projects/consultancy etc.
 
The training and placement cell of PU has also developed strong relationship with industries. The cell also plays active role in identifying the need of the industry and suggest training programs/ industry related content preparation so as to prepare students accordingly.
To provide an acceptable atmosphere for bringing up and conveying academic excellence amongst the students, the University has signed agreements for collaboration with the following Universities/ Institutions/ Agencies to promote learning and research:.
The University has strong alumni connect and a definite plan for involvement of alumni in training and mentoring activities so as to not only get their involvement in various industry related activities but also in providing internship/placement support.
Poornima University is also putting sincere efforts in developing start-up eco system and building the network of entrepreneurs for mentoring its students to become successful entrepreneur or take up his/her family business as a career.
5. Evidences of success
The industry institute interaction helped the students to remain updated about the recent industry trends so that they can prepare themselves accordingly. The university conducts good number of such interactions in a semester which helped the faculty and students to learn about the advancements in the technologies and real world environment. Almost all the students are highly benefited by such activities directly/indirectly. This has resulted in industry ready students who are able to meet industry requirements. It also helped in grabbing industry oriented projects/industry visits/tours/internships which are seen in overall quality of such activities and above all the increasing percentage and quality of placements. &nbsp
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
A lot of liaison and continuous follow-up is required for increasing the effectiveness of industry connect which is always a challenge. Industry professional have their own challenges and find less time for interaction with the academia. The faculty generally do not interact much with industry due to their limitation of time and resources. Therefore, incentive mechanism shall be developed for enhancing these activities and collaborations with industry and industry professionals.

Upliftment of Socio-economic status of student with global exposure/competence
2.Objectives of the Practice
Poornima University situated in Rajasthan, considered to be the parched state of the country has always experienced arid or semi-arid climate with minimum amount of rainfall. Rajasthan has the largest number of unprivileged students who have not ever completed their higher education. The average number in terms of enrolment in the higher education sector in the country is about 25 % but the state of Rajasthan has the lowest Gross Enrolment ratio (GER).
3. The Context
To increase the figure of enrolment in the higher education sector, Poornima University came into existence with the motive “Your Dreams Our Goal”. To fulfil the dreams of unprivileged society, University provided different types of Scholarship from its inception i.e. Merit Based Scholarship; Gayatri Girls Scholarship and various other state scholarships so that the students who are capable of learning and possess some educational skills must be given a chance to show their talent in the field of education sector. In order to fulfil the dreams of students to achieve their goals, the University has provided about Rs. 200 million scholarships to more than three thousand students. This scholarship played a very vital role in shaping their future and the university feels proud that by taking such an initiative, many individuals are able to shape their career and future along with safeguarding their family. Poornima University believes in a vigorous and robust outcome-based education system. University provides one of the best academic exposure to students with well qualified and experienced faculty and staff members along with many recreational and other sports facilities so that there is an overall development of an individual. University makes the students learn about various emerging technologies of their respective areas by organizing various teaching learning processes like industry institute interaction, special lectures of eminent personalities from academia as well as industry, regularly updating the curriculum etc. Use of modern ICT tools along with development of various skills like entrepreneurship, leadership, team working skills etc. Makes the individual to become industry ready professional.
To indoctrinate the research attitude among students, a large number of projects and consultancy sponsored by Industry and government are carried out in the university by faculty members along with students. This practice makes the students confident and motivates them to perform and carry out individual projects as they are funded by various associations like DST Rajasthan, ISHRAE, ISLE etc.

There are positive key elements which are driving higher education in the current scenario and one of them is the society upliftment. Looking at the scenario the contemporary education system needs a different academic approach which is more focused on society.

  • Increasing placements with highly satisfied alumnus
  • Participation of students in various national level competitions in the technical field held in IITs & NIITs.  (60% of the students participate in various competitions in the field of technical, cultural & sports. The university allows the student to participate and support the student in terms of attendance and marks against the discipline TEP etc.)
  • High quality publications in various sectors like engineering, management in the Scopus Journal, Springer, UGC care journals etc.
  • Project exhibitions conducted annually by each and every department/school showcasing various projects and the best projects being awarded with certificate and cash prizes at department days.
  • School specific participation in relevant activities is also highly encouraged as the students of architecture participate in the annual and zonal NASA every year.
  • Apart from academics and technical background, students participate in many sports and cultural activities along with even representing at international level (American football) followed by participation in many fields of design & architecture and presenting their skills to numerous events at IIT, NIT and national level.
  • Some of the IPR also registered annually opening the side of entrepreneurship.

  • Emerging Projects has heightened and boosted the skills of our students, but the prerequisite of Innovative Project on newest technologies and sustenance of Industry is to be looked into so that the concerned issues can be addressed.

Institution Distinctiveness
Education is a tool that can help break the pattern of gender discrimination and bring drastic change for women in developing countries. Accomplishing gender equality is not a ‘women’s concern’ but the prime responsibility and duty of all the individuals living in society. With this thought process, Poornima University sturdily trusts and believes in gender equality and the intentions are always clear with the aim to deliver, uphold and preserve a dignified, safe, amiable working and learning environment for the women employees and the students. It nurtures the atmosphere where men and women work together towards the growth and prosperity of the institution in an innocuous and healthy academic environment. Education is one of the most important means of empowering women with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to participate fully in the development process. PU plays a vital role in order to achieve the target of cent percent literacy in women population by undertaking the various initiatives as mentioned below:
  • Provides a conducive ambience for the teaching-learning process.
  • A distinct scholarship is offered to the transgender students in order to inspire and encourage them to complete their higher education in a friendly environment.
  • A “Gayatri Scholarship” is awarded to three female students from each School, residing in the university hostel.
  • The complete campus is under CCTV surveillance with well illuminated LED lights.
  • Various activities/seminars/etc. are organized for sensitizing faculty and students about gender issues. Various special lectures are organised for the female faculty members and girls studying in the university.
  • Encouraging a culture of respect and equality for the female gender in the society.
  • Providing safe transport facility to all faculty and staff members staying late after the working hours in the campus.
  • Motivating and promoting the female faculty members and students to take up leadership roles in the university starting from the department head to the level of registrar.
  • Equal participation of the leadership (female faculty/students) in the decision and policy making of the university.
 
The University has a very vigorous Women Cell, where a female student or any of the female faculty/staff members can discuss her problem with the in charge. A lady proctor has been appointed in the university for the same who serves the leadership role and is responsible for the overall working of the committee/ cell. Each year a large number of programs are being organized by the Women Cell such as International Women’s Day, Women’s in Science, Women in Engineering, programs on Women Empowerment, learn from Leaders etc. for sensitizing the female faculty and students about gender issues.
Apart from lady proctor, many faculty members have been given the leadership roles like six to seven faculty members have been given the responsibility of heading the particular department. The admission team of the university is led by a female faculty member and even the central level leadership like the post of CoE, Registrar etc. are headed by the female faculty member. Such type of active participation of female staff and students will make women self-reliant and self-confident. Such examples showcase that the university believes in gender equality and make certain measures to do towards the same. The efforts can be quantified with the notable achievement of University for having more than 47% female faculty members on roles and more than 50% female administrative staff on roles of the University.
For encouraging more female students enrolment in Higher Education and Gender equality, University has launched “Gayatri Scholarship” for girl students which is focusing on facilitating quality and Industry oriented higher education for half of the population of the nation, outcome of the same has been quite excellent, that University is currently having more than 36% girl students pursuing their UG/PG/PhD level programs in all disciplines of the programs offered.
The University has always believed in equal opportunity to girls during “Placement Drives” and in fact conducts 4-5 Placement drives only for girls’ students and in past year have achieved more than 18% girls being placed in Industries of repute.
University is also putting great effort to ensure good awareness of Entrepreneurship amongst all the female candidates by organising awareness sessions for them too and we have proudly motivated and incubated more than 20% start-ups/ incubations by female students out of total 60 Incubations generated by the University efforts, in past 5 years.
